The Group Styles Inventory™ (GSI) is the only research-based tool of its kind that provides a proven, valid and reliable measure of how people in groups interact with each other and work as a team.
Who is the GSI for?
Teams of Any Kind
The GSI provides group members with a ‘safe’ way to talk about their behaviour and how it affects the group’s performance.
This assessment is recommended for:
- Temporary teams
- Project teams
- Permanent teams
- Any kind of team that requires high levels of performance
The GSI measures the group’s climate, behaviour, and impact. It then identifies behaviours for the group to build or strengthen in order to achieve synergy.
The Group Styles Inventory™
The Process
The GSI consists of 72 statements, measuring 12 group styles that describe the following:
- The climate or atmosphere of the group’s team work session;
- The different types of behaviour exhibited by team members;
- The possible impact of the team as whole on individual members
This assessment collects data on seven summary items which generate information on the extent to which team members feel they worked together effectively, accept the solution that was generated, and view the quality of the solution as high.
The Benefits
Group members complete the GSI following either a group problem solving simulation, or a meeting to solve an actual organisational problem. Identifying the group’s actual commitment level and uncovering any ‘undiscussable’ topics helps to:
- Better cooperation;
- Track team progress;
- Improved communication;
- Increase solution quality;
- Become more effective
The GSI exposes what is helping and hindering the team in its efforts.
Testimonial
“We were experiencing a lot of confrontational and non productive discussions around problem solving within our team. The positive outcomes of the GSI for us have meant that we’ve become more effective communicators and engage in much more collaborative practices while resolving issues.”
